Keltec was founded in 1991 by George Kellgren, owner and chief engineer. Previously he had experience in firearms design for the Swedish company Intratec, including the famous TEC-9 model. Before launching Keltec, he had started another firearms company called Grendel Inc. which operated from 1987 to 1994. Keltec has grown to be the fifth largest handgun manufacturer in terms of US production.
