Magnum Research Inc. (MRI) was founded in 1979 by Jim Skildum and John Risdall starting with their design of the iconic Desert Eagle pistol. Both men were early in their career, combining Jim's past experience in the Air Force and John's background in marketing. Initially production was contracted to IMI in Israel (1979-1995), Saco Defense in Maine (1995-1998), and back to IMI/IWI (1998-2009). In 2009 production began internally in Pillager Minnesota. MRI was acquired by Kahr Group in 2010 and continues to operate as a subsidiary.
