Salient was founded in 2001 by Adrian Chavez and started as a private security firm offering protection services for global clients. The company began manufacturing firearm parts so they could move non-serialized weapons into difficult jursidictions. In 2015 they incorporated as Salient Arms International and now offer a range of customized guns that are direct upgrades of stock models from Glock, Smith & Wesson, and various others. Salient also manufactures their own line of pistols.
