Stoeger Industries was founded in 1924 by Alexander F. Stoeger. It became the largest gun store in New York City. Over the years Stoeger commissioned some European companies to produce various firearms for import. In 2000 the company became fully owned by Benelli USA, a subsidiary of Beretta. In 2002 Beretta acquired Vursan, a firearms company in Turkey. Vursan had started in the 1980s making semi-auto shotguns. Under Beretta ownership the company changed its name to Stoeger Silah Sanayi AS and there was massive investment in a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant. In 2005 the new plant began making pistols and these are imported to the US by Stoeger Industries.
